Now's the time to show off your favorite glossy trenches and teddy bear-inspired shearling jackets. A good fall coat is one investment piece you shouldn't skimp out on. This fall, longline trench coats and more are set to be the outerwear of choice among the stylish NYC set. Just because we're no longer wearing sweats 24/7 doesn't mean we're ditching them completely, either. In fact, we have a newfound appreciation for a matching set in a pretty color.

Stash a statement necklace or earrings in your bag so you can be ready for dinner in a flash. Add a bold lip on your way to the restaurant for instant glam. When your outfits are simple and stylish, you’ll be ready for anything. While we’ll be sharing seasonal outfit ideas below, there are a few essentials you’ll want to bring to New York regardless of when you visit. Head-to-toe black isn’t the least bit dull when cutout tops, balloon-shaped pants, or textured fabrics are incorporated. So if you find you’re out of ideas on what to wear, you can never go wrong with the iconic New York uniform—the effortlessly chic and unendingly cool. Not ready to trade in your lace-up sandals for suede ankle boots yet? Luckily, in the early weeks of autumn, you can still wear open-toe sandals or woven espadrilles without flirting with hypothermia.
Cowboy Boots With Blazers and Jeans
In particular, when I grabbed lunch with senior editor Nicole Eshaghpour in SoHo, while sitting at a sidewalk cafe, we noticed a steady stream of cool looks passing by. The outfits were heavy on TikTok trends, including pieces like low-rise baggy jeans and cutouts, as well as directional basics such as cowboy boots and vest tops. We're also 99% sure we even sawKatie Holmes walking by wearing a pair of JW Anderson chain-detail slides. Long story short, there was so much fashion to take in, and I just need to discuss it.

Easy denim with gorgeous sandals and a breezy top will be your uniform. On top, think cropped camis, deep V halters, and blouses. Pair them with equally cool and comfy maxi skirts, culottes, and light denims. Playsuits and jumpsuits can be great, but avoid tight body cons of any design, as it’s icky to get sticky when you’re on the go for hours.
